Távora-Varosa takes its name from the Távora and Varosa river valleys. Its vineyards lie between 500 and 800 metres in a strongly continental climate, with granite prevailing and some schist outcrops. This high-altitude setting suits sparkling wines with fresher, higher acidity. In 1989, Távora-Varosa became Portugal's first region demarcated for DOC sparkling wine.
