Hot, dry conditions and Atlantic influence in Swartland favour concentrated, medium-bodied Syrah and Chenin Blanc. Syrah commonly combines cherry and blackcurrant with herbs, lavender and spice. Eben Sadie's first Columella bottling in 2000 helped set Swartland's modern wine movement in motion. The Swartland Revolution moved attention away from the district's bulk associations toward independent, site-focused wines.
