Südsteiermark is Styria's Sauvignon Blanc country. Its steep, humid hills produce wines that can be herbal, aromatic and high in acid, from light, fragrant bottles to more weighty examples with enough concentration for Burgundian élevage. Many vines grow on slopes where machinery is barely possible, so the work is largely done by hand. Vineyards sit between 320 and 550 metres, facing east, south and west. Five official Ortsweingebiete give further detail on a label: Kitzeck-Sausal, Eichberg, Leutschach, Gamlitz and Ehrenhausen.

- SteiermarkNo producers listed yetSteiermark is the German name for Styria, a rainy, wind-sheltered wine area between the Alps and the Adriatic. Sauvignon Blanc in Südsteiermark, Traminer in the warmer Vulkanland area, and high-acid Schilcher in Weststeiermark show how much the wines change within it.
- Süd-Oststeiermark2 producersSüd-Oststeiermark is Styria's warmer wine area. Its wines gain strength in the heat but keep freshness through cooler nights, and Traminer is an important aromatic grape alongside Sauvignon Blanc.
- WeststeiermarkNo producers listed yetWeststeiermark is the home of Schilcher, Styria's high-acid pink wine from Blauer Wildbacher. This narrow band along the Alpine foothills also makes sparkling Schilcher, and its wines can age.
