Bolgheri & Etruscan Coast includes the appellations Bolgheri, Bolgheri Sassicaia, Val di Cornia, Val di Cornia Rosso, Suvereto, Terratico di Bibbona and Montescudaio. In Bolgheri, soils include sandy clay loam, deep alkaline ground, fine gravel and fossil shells. Around 27 soil types have been identified. Modern plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Sangiovese.
